Emerald Ash Borer- Ash Trees. Found in Moorhead, Minnesota. This pest will kill your Ash Trees. It is recommended that all Ash trees within 15 miles of Moorhead, Mn should be treated with insecticide, or removed. Fortunately, insecticides are available, and effective.
Cost for a treatment of one, or a few individual trees on residential or business properties is very reasonable and cost effective, especially compared to tree removal. In fact, studies indicate a 20 year breakeven insecticide treatment versus tree removal. You can treat your ash tree(s) for 20 years before it equals the cost of tree removal. In addition, you keep your tree(s) which increases your property value upto 10% to 20%.
Preventive Treatments are the least cost remedy giving protection to your tree(s) before the insects do any damage to your tree(s). Depending on product and method used a small to mid size tree is about a hundred bucks for a treatment which lasts the entire year.
If you wait until after your tree is infested to begin treatment you may not be aware of the damage taking place which could make your tree unsavable if you wait too long. Although treatments are both preventive and curative the products, dosage, and/or method of treatment change with the severity of infestation, and/or local insect population pressure.

A single treatment will last all season-long. However, research and experience suggest that effectiveness of insecticides has been less consistent on larger trees. When treating very large trees under high pest pressure, it may be necessary to combine two treatment strategies.
